Belize has taken some great steps to protecting their ocean waters and the life within it. The Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve will be expanded 700%! and they will be phasing out the use of gillnet fishing by 2022, partly by assisting "fishers transition to more sustainable livelihoods".
Not sure what a gillnet is and how it is a killing sea turtles and other marine life that is both not intended to be caught and are often threatened species? "The marine reserve expansion has helped Belize meet its international commitment to the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Aichi Target 11, which calls for nations to protect at least 10% of their marine environments by 2020."
